Nostra Famiglia

When I was asked to do a photoshoot for four siblings who wanted to give their mom a going away gift, I had no idea how much fun I would have. Trying to get schedules to align is always an issue, but they all made it happen. Even the final output deadline was very tight. MPixPro who I use for my high end quality products leaped over the moon to get me my order on time. I wanted to try some new items to add  to my product line. I packaged the images and video on disc, pearlescent prints mounted on matt board presented in a custom memoir box and accordion book. When Mom received her gift on her departure to Italy the emotions were overwhelming. A heartfelt thank you means the world to any photographer. Working with great people makes the experience memorable to me! Thank YOU-Darcy, Veronica, Cassidy, Lexy and Remy!

"Thanks so much Robin for doing this, I would be lying if I said I didn't cry a little when looking at all the pictures and moms reaction! The photoshoot was fantastic, and that says a lot coming from someone who hates being photographed! You managed to make it fun till the final snap three hours later. Who would have thought the four of us in the same picture could look so great, at the same time? The final product was an unparalleled keepsake of timeless, beautiful memories. Thanks so much"

Bring Back Play Canada!

As an active community member part of my photography mission is to assist development in sport and keep children active. I believe in building confidence, promoting amateur athletes to aspire and do great things.

I couldn't be more proud to be a part of Canadian Tire's new "We All Play for Canada" national marketing campaign. In association with the Canadian Olympic Committee and a number of amateur sport organizations the project is to encourage play among Canadian youth. Read the full article in Marketing Magazine: NEW CANADIAN TIRE CAMPAIGN BIDS US TO GO PLAY | August 16, 2013 | Chris Powell

This message is so strong and endearing to me because as a child I was active and driven to be an elite athlete. I worked hard with a wonderful community behind me. They helped to assist with all the issues that deter kids from play. It was because of these people and the innate ambition I desired which helped me to achieve my goals.

Lifestyle changes and motherhood becomes my priority and I see a technological society hypnotize our children. I photograph action to inspire these children to continue to participate. These young athletes love the movement, expression and experiences captured. I laugh now because I only have a couple of photos from my play days. I really wish I had more to reflect on those amazing memories. I have taken hundreds of thousands of photos of amateur athletes and love to share them. I believe in my personal mission to boost excitement in sport and personal development through my photography. [Special Posts: What inspires me as a photographer | Vision to Reality )

I was excited to create a timeless piece when the families of the Dundas Jr. Real McCoys Select Hockey team asked me to do something for the coaches and players. [Post1 | Post2] We had the most magnificent season. Who knew some stuff in the back of my car and impromptu photoshoot in a hockey dressing room could get any better!

Amanda of Blake Talent is Login's agent. When she heard of the casting for real teams, she contacted me because I am a sport photographer. At the time we thought that the entire team would be casted for the commercial, so a blanket email went out to all interested. Although it was summer and some families were away and committed, we had a 100% response rate of support!

Then five boys from Dundas were selected to be in the "Drum Roll" please......"Canadian Tire" National commercial-Woohoooooooooo! There is no other brand more Canadian than "Canadian Tire"...oh and to represent hockey? WoW! See because LJ (Login) has been doing this for a while, he knows how much work is involved to book. He was on cloud nine to wear the Johnathan "Toews" jersey. LJ cheered the Blackhawks all the way to the Stanley Cup!

hockey-headshotso

Now going back to the photographs, I am in awe that the boys booked from their headshots. We are used to going through Toronto traffic for casting, callbacks and wardrobe etc. Mississauga was a stone throw away and the rain...really what rain? We were so happy to be there and the boys had the time of their life! LJ was thrilled to be with his teammates and doing something he loves with a hockey stick in his hand.

The outreach to the grassroots level is profound. The involvement of genuine athletes playing the game is a real strong inspiring message. As a photographer I will continue to motivate and excite activity within our young athletes. I hope the “We All Play For Canada” campaign touches your heart and inspires your strength to bring back play! http://weallplayforcanada.ca/ #WeAllPlayForCanada #CanadianTire

Slam Dunks to Dunkaroos

In honor of the Ganon Baker 2013 Hamilton Camp starting this week, I think it is appropriate to show off some Slam Dunks to Dunkaroos! I am a huge fan of Dr. J (Julius Winfield Erving II) and I want to be entertained! Dunking a basketball is exciting and basketball players are getting more and more creative. Many people are not blessed with the ability to jump over 6' & only dream of dunking like a pro. Visualization is half the battle, so as a photographer I can make real time images. With the aid of technology & specific equipment, I am able to shoot different angles, be creative with my athletes developing their mental image to peak performance realty!

“We Are Jackets” Tribute Poster

Blessed Sacrament 2012-2013 Major Atom Girls Basketball Team - 12x18 Poster "We Are Jackets"-Forever With Us! Sydney Wood 2001-2012

Certainly one of the most rewarding projects that I have ever done! When Mary inquired about getting information on a tribute gift for the Blessed Sacrament Major Atom Girls Basketball Team, I couldn't wait to get started. I never expected the final product to be this moving and rewarding:

"This picture is probably one of the best things I have ever received my in my life. The thought and love that went into creating this is amazing and very overwhelming. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart You have no idea what this means to me..."-Coach Greg

"WOW !!!! The Jackets can not thank Miss Robin and Aerial, her special helper for the absolutely wonderful photo that they delivered today to everyone. To see everyone's eyes widen and to hear the sharp intakes of breath as everyone saw the picture for the first time was a moment of pure joy. Robin, your pictures captured the personality of each girl and the love that they have for each other, their Coaches and their special angel Sydney . From the bottom of our hearts Love and Thanks to you.." Mary, aka GM

Jr. Real McCoy’s Hockey Poster

Hockey Poster | Dundas Jr. Real McCoy's | Select Atom Division

The surprise is out and it was a huge success! Both the kids, parents and coaches love the poster. I was able to present them on a Fuji Pearl paper that boasts a three-dimensional image because of the ultra-bright background and pearlescent film and laminate finish. The poster was mounted on a 2mm styrene with a lustre coating and an archival value of 100-200 years.

[cincopa AwNAjIrLKOwW] My favorite part about photographing the team was the shower stall photo shoot.  The boys got a kick out of the that when they giggled and said "These are the bathroom photos?". Who knew?....These kids rocked it with their sweaty after game look. It's amazing the expressions a little role play with the kids in game mode can get you...even artistically! Brady650 The headshots were done with a Westcott Ice Light that is basically a portable daylight, Nikon SB800, Reflector and Nikon D3s Jonnah

Thank You to The Dundas Jr. Real McCoy's Atom Select Hockey Team, Coaches and Families for a Wonderful 2012-2013 Season!

Big Ben Will Strike in Dallas

McMaster Marauder Ben D’Aguilar is attracting attention south of the border.

The 6’2, 240 defensive lineman from Hamilton has been invited to National Football League Super Regional Combine in Dallas, Texas on April 7. D’Aguilar received the invite based on testing results he had posted in an NFL Regional Combine in Florida.

“It’s champ to be invited to this Combine as it gives me a personal opportunity to prove that I have what it takes despite being Canadian and whatever misconceptions that may carry,” commented D’Aguilar.

With the goal of putting in a great performance at the Super Combine, the Hamilton defensive star will be working on improving on certain areas.

“The biggest thing I’d like to do to prepare for the Combine is to run hills once the weather clears up,” explained D’Aguilar.

D’Aguilar has just completed his fourth season with the Marauders of Ontario University Athletics. In October 2012, he set a Canadian Interuniversity Sport record for single season sacks as he amassed 12.5 sacks in eight games. He also registered 28 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, a forced fumble, and a pass break-up.

Yates_1076Cup Photo: Robin Leworthy Wilson (Aerial Promotions) He was the top pass rusher on the Marauders defense. For his exceptional play on the field, D’Aguilar was awarded the J.P. Metras Award as Lineman of the Year. In 2011, he led the Marauders to a Vanier Cup victory. This past September, he was ranked fifth on the Canadian Football League’s list of the Top 15 Prospects for its 2013 draft, which is set to take place on May 6. Moreover, D’Aguilar will participate in this upcoming weekend’s CFL Combine.

Previous to the Marauders, D’Aguilar spent a season at Fork Union Military Academy. Other teams that he has suited up for include the Hamilton Ironmen and his high school team, the Barton Barons of the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association.

The NFL Super Regional Combine will be on the NFL Network and NFL.com

March Madness Camera Action!

After getting home from Bahamas we were off to the Sparta Classic Basketball Tournament at Michigan State. Transway met up with the Indiana G3 Hoosiers, a National (USA) Ranked #2 team.  It was an exciting game to say the least. The basketball rules are very different in the United States. I believe it certainly develops better players and refereeing to a much more elite level.

David Johnson (DJ) ran his 2013 March Break Elite Basketball Camp at Annunciation Catholic School, Hamilton-ON. The camp was very inspiring with daily quotes to ponder, a commemorative t-shirt fund in honour of Sydney Wood, intense strength & conditioning training, advance skill assessment and motivational coaching. It was wonderful to see the camaraderie among athletes from all teams come together.

Loss Leaves Mac at .500 in Women’s Volleyball

Source: Fraser Caldwell, McMaster Communications – January 13, 2013 [Hamilton Scores]

The Marauders’ winning streak was snapped at four on Saturday (Jan.12) after the Ryerson Rams handed the hosts a 3-2 loss at the Burridge Gym in Ontario University Athletics women’s volleyball.

Taylor Brisebois led the Marauders paced Mac with 17 points, converting 11 of her 16 hitting attempts in the process. Shannon McRobert (15) and Kierstyn Bakker (14) also contributed double-digit point totals for McMaster, which evened its record at 6-6.

vball_macpink-4 Marauders Meagan Nederveen (4) and Mira Krunic dive in unison to to save a point. (Photo: Robin Leworthy Wilson)

Middle Chelsea Briscoe was tops for the Rams with 18.5 points and 15 kills.

The first set began neck-and-neck, but the Marauders distanced themselves as they approached the technical timeout. The home side took a 16-11 lead into the break after the Rams were unable to pass out of a swing by Lauren Mastroluisi.

It was Mastroluisi who forced the Rams into another timeout at 19-11, when the left side rolled a shot deep that found a weak point in Ryerson’s coverage. Weldon chose to dump two points later and caught the Rams off guard to move the Marauders ahead by nine at 21-12.

McMaster held that pace in the late stages, and polished off the set by a score of 25-15 after a combo block by Taylor Brisebois and Mira Krunic on the right side.

In the second set, a small Marauder run forced the Rams to call time at 9-6. McMaster seized on that advantage, and when a Ryerson attack weakly floated wide, the Marauders led 13-9.

The visitors answered back momentarily, winning seven of the next eight points to carry a 16-14 lead into the technical timeout after the Marauders failed to dig out the serve. The set levelled out again a few points later, with the Rams putting an attack wide left to end a long rally and knot things at 17.

Errors crept into McMaster’s game, and they were forced to call time trailing 23-21 after a miscue at the net. The Rams finished the set strongly and evened the match at a game apiece with a 25-23 win.

The home side bounced back quickly in the third, jumping into the lead on the back of a combo block in the middle by Lauren Skelly and Brisebois, and testing Ryerson with its serve to take a 12-7. Shannon McRobert made the most of an awkward pass and pushed an attack to take the Marauders into the third set technical timeout with a 16-13 advantage.

But Ryerson used the timeout well, and came out firing to retake the lead and force McMaster into a break of its own at 18-17. Much like the Rams’ timeout before it, the Marauders’ appeared to refocus the team, and they powered into a lead that proved final.

Riding the steady service of Bakker, McMaster streaked to the finish line in the third, and crossed it when Krunic tooled the block on the right and found the floor for 25-21.

There was little to separate the two teams early in the fourth, but Ryerson inched ahead as it approached the technical timeout. Kailee Stock produced a thunderous kill for 13-15, but the Rams would enter the break with the lead a point later. McMaster kept itself within striking distance and tied the game at 21 when Patricia Raso came up with a solo block on the left.

Ryerson moved into a late lead and edged the set 25-23 when a McMaster dig sailed wide.

The Rams carried that momentum into the fifth, and won five of the first six points of the deciding set before the Marauders called time. It was a deep hole to dig out of for the home side, and McMaster would never be able to fully recover, dropping the set 15-7.
