Dundas Blues Bobbleheads

Sometimes in the middle of the night you get up with a great idea. Not sure how to implement it, but a concept you want to experiment and have fun with. Well I just did that! The Nikon Fisheye 10.5mm 1:2.8 lens has given me some extraordinary results this year. I wanted to do a composite where the kids could give me some really silly expressions. The DMHA Dundas Blues team was just up for that challenge. Even the coaches got in on the action...Although I had to hunt a few down [TeeHeeHee], they were great sports. Movember is a very good time to get that real grunge look too. I really didn't know how I was going to pull it together. The shoot was really fast...like an assembly line. I used my favorite Westcott Ice Light, reflector and remote flash. The images were all extracted on the Wacom Cintiq tablet and various filters were used in photoshop to finish the The Dundas Blues Bobblehead Composite.

I still enjoy the traditional team photo...I just like to add a little more character to make it different. Thanks Al & Jeff!

Something you don't know! When my little guy first started playing hockey he wouldn't get out of bed, he would sit on the ice, he would not listen and misbehave. Yes we still got up at 5am for the 6'O'clock practices. We stuck with it and it was our son's decision to try out for rep. We were skeptical and he was not ready. He didn't make the team that year, but had an AMAZING season playing select hockey. The next year came and he wanted to try out again. More prepared and focused-YAY he made the team. He never gave up and loves to play hockey. In his first year playing I took some snaps of him on the ice. I didn't know the people helping him would be his coaches today! Back then you were just a guy on the ice. Your photo hung in my son's room for years. Proud to call you coach today. Thanks Denis!

Bulldogs Shutout Comets in Dundas

Source: Bulldogs Communication | Hamilton Scores | October 3rd, 2013 | J.L. Grightmire Arena

Hamilton Bulldogs rookie forward Sven Andrighetto scored the only goal of the game at 3:57 of the second period to lift the ‘Dogs to a 1-0 pre-season win over new division rivals, the Utica Comets, Thursday (Oct 3) evening at J.L. Grightmire Market Street Arena in Dundas, Ontario.

Andreghetti

Things opened slowly in the first period. The excitement of the opening frame was a fight between Hamilton forward Jordan Owens and Utica forward David Pacan. Owens dropped Comets forward Alex Friesen with a big hit at the Utica blueline before Pacan stepped in looking to settle the score. After one, the two teams were scoreless.

Fight Owens

Andrighetto scored the only goal of the night nearly four minutes into the second period when he ripped a feed from defenceman Nathan Beaulieu off the post and in.

Rookie Goal

Utica pressed hard to tie in the third period, but Hamilton goaltender Dustin Tokarski, who replaced starter Robert Mayer midway through the second, held the fort for the Bulldogs.

Mayer and Tokarski combined to make 28 saves for the shutout. Joacim Eriksson played the entire game for Utica, making 19 saves on 20 shots.

Hamilton Bulldogs Goalie

Hamilton went 0-for-4 on the power play. Utica went 0-for-2.

Scoring Summary

1st Period: No scoring

2nd Period: HAM – Sven Andrighetto – (Nathan Beaulieu) – 3:57

3rd Period: No scoring

Great times in Dundas last night! A Big Thank You to the Hamilton Bulldogs organization for assisting the DMHA in their fundraising efforts. Congratulations Bulldogs on your 1-0 win over The Utica Comets.

Jr. Real McCoy’s Hockey Poster

Hockey Poster | Dundas Jr. Real McCoy's | Select Atom Division

The surprise is out and it was a huge success! Both the kids, parents and coaches love the poster. I was able to present them on a Fuji Pearl paper that boasts a three-dimensional image because of the ultra-bright background and pearlescent film and laminate finish. The poster was mounted on a 2mm styrene with a lustre coating and an archival value of 100-200 years.

[cincopa AwNAjIrLKOwW] My favorite part about photographing the team was the shower stall photo shoot.  The boys got a kick out of the that when they giggled and said "These are the bathroom photos?". Who knew?....These kids rocked it with their sweaty after game look. It's amazing the expressions a little role play with the kids in game mode can get you...even artistically! Brady650 The headshots were done with a Westcott Ice Light that is basically a portable daylight, Nikon SB800, Reflector and Nikon D3s Jonnah

Thank You to The Dundas Jr. Real McCoy's Atom Select Hockey Team, Coaches and Families for a Wonderful 2012-2013 Season!

Hookey Hockey Fun-Fun-Fun!

Wrapping up the 2012-2013 Hockey Season... The Dundas Jr. Real McCoy's Atom Select Hockey Team was given the opportunity for ice time at Copps Coliseum on April 11th, 2013. Although the arena was pretty empty compared to a Hamilton Bulldog game, the young boys were very excited to play on the big ice surface.

Copps-Coliseum

I really enjoy shooting venues and can't wait to do some really awesome compositing with the images captured. One thing I learned this hockey season is how much parents love candids of their kids.  I'm so locked on getting the killer action shots, that I forget the silent moments between. That's why in the last series of images you will find a lot of candid player shots for the families.

The final Select tournament of the year was played at The Hershey Centre in Mississauga. The MHL truly caters to the players and puts on a top notch show. It was the little details like complimentary prize draws for the kids, Game MVP medals, Gift bags and treats after every game...Hey they even had a Mascot! [View All MHL Tournament Photographs]

_RLW1288A

Now I'm not going to spoil the surprise but was asked to do a little impromptu project. I look in my camera bag and I have an old Nikon SB800, reflector, Westcott icelight and stool in my car. So I have a concept and decide to do headshots of the boys after the game. I pull it off  with my lovely assistant in the shower stall of the dressing room. I am so impressed with the three looks.

_RLW2317

I wanted to blow out the background of the tiles to be consistent in design, but sometimes the SB800 did not recycle. _RLW2400 The one light with the black or grey background rocks too!  Although I didn't realize how great the texture of the shower stall was until I started to edit.  Goalie-on-a-mission   Shhhhhhh....Can't wait to show you the finished product!!!

This is Why I Love Being a Photographer!

I'm off to further my photography skills in the beautiful islands of Bahamas this week. I'm hoping to learn a little more about underwater photography with my new diving certification. Before I leave I want to share an enlightening testimonial and great experience for me from the Sports Medicine Department of McMaster University. When you are finished a job and get validation that your client is happy, WoW it is a superb feeling!

Testimonial:

"As the Strength & Conditioning coordinator for McMaster University, I was tasked with organizing the staff photo for nearly 100 staff. As i searched for a photographer I knew i needed someone that related to athletes, could command a large group and take excellent photos - Robin Leworthy Wilson was the perfect choice!" "Robin provided excellent service in her pre-site visit, day of photography, photo editing and delivery. Robin was awesome to work with, a very personable and professional photographer who did all of the little things right and ensured that her finished product and service along the way was second to none!" To anyone who needs an excellent photographer I highly recommend Robin!

Thanks Robin! You are the best! Steve Lidstone Strength & Conditioning Coordinator McMaster University
