Dundas Blues Bobbleheads

Sometimes in the middle of the night you get up with a great idea. Not sure how to implement it, but a concept you want to experiment and have fun with. Well I just did that! The Nikon Fisheye 10.5mm 1:2.8 lens has given me some extraordinary results this year. I wanted to do a composite where the kids could give me some really silly expressions. The DMHA Dundas Blues team was just up for that challenge. Even the coaches got in on the action...Although I had to hunt a few down [TeeHeeHee], they were great sports. Movember is a very good time to get that real grunge look too. I really didn't know how I was going to pull it together. The shoot was really fast...like an assembly line. I used my favorite Westcott Ice Light, reflector and remote flash. The images were all extracted on the Wacom Cintiq tablet and various filters were used in photoshop to finish the The Dundas Blues Bobblehead Composite.

I still enjoy the traditional team photo...I just like to add a little more character to make it different. Thanks Al & Jeff!

Lonely Zamboni

Something you don't know! When my little guy first started playing hockey he wouldn't get out of bed, he would sit on the ice, he would not listen and misbehave. Yes we still got up at 5am for the 6'O'clock practices. We stuck with it and it was our son's decision to try out for rep. We were skeptical and he was not ready. He didn't make the team that year, but had an AMAZING season playing select hockey. The next year came and he wanted to try out again. More prepared and focused-YAY he made the team. He never gave up and loves to play hockey. In his first year playing I took some snaps of him on the ice. I didn't know the people helping him would be his coaches today! Back then you were just a guy on the ice. Your photo hung in my son's room for years. Proud to call you coach today. Thanks Denis!

Dundas comes to life after “finding” legs

Four unanswered third period goals lifted the Dundas Real McCoys from a 4-3 deficit to a 7-4 victory over the Orillia Sunrise Toyota Tundras in Allan Cup Hockey action at the JL Grightmire Arena.

The Allen Cup Hockey victory on Friday (Jan.11) came on the heels of the McCoys 8-5 loss to the Dunlops in Whitby’s Iroquois Sports Complex two nights earlier.

“We played well in Whitby except for about 11 minutes when they scored at will. We have to be better the next time that we play them, and it’s clear we have to play a full 60 minutes,” said Dundas general manager Don Robertson.

“Orillia is a much better hockey club now than they were three weeks ago. Once we got our legs in the second period, we played our game. We moved the puck well, worked hard, and played with confidence, which is the way we want to carry ourselves as we gear up for the playoffs,” Robertson added.

Friday (Jan.18) the McCoys will take on the league leading Blast in the Brantford Civic Centre at 7:30 p.m. before returning home to play the Blast again in on Friday, Jan. 25.

The win gave the third place McCoys their 10th victory of the season against eight losses. Orillia is fourth in the five-team league with a 4-3 record. Brantford leads ACH with a 15-1 record and is in the midst of a four-game winning streak since losing to the Orillia 6-3 on Dec. 14.

“After the Ontario Hockey Association cut down date on Jan.10, we have five player cards open. One card has to be for a goalkeeper. We may resign some of the players that we left off the list,” explained Robertson. “Even if we do that, we will still have some room to add some needed depth to our defence.”

“Second place is our goal, in order to get home ice advantage in the playoffs. If we work hard that is attainable, however we must beat Brantford to get there.”

Dundas fell behind 2-0 on a pair of goals by Travis Fuller in the first 10 minutes of the game against the Tundras, and had the crowd wondering if it was going to be ‘déjà vu all over again.’

Mike Berry put the McCoys on the board with a powerplay goal at 11:13. Kyle Mont Petit replied on an Orillia powerplay two minutes later only to have Scott Mifsud pull Dundas within a goal with 40 seconds left in the opening period.

Chris Johnston of Orillia and Nick Smith traded goals in the second before Dundas blew the doors off Orillia in the third with goals by Mike Amodeo, Justin Davis, Darryl Smith (powerplay), and Cam Watson. Smith led the McCoys with a goal and three assists. Berry and Darryl Smith had three-point games.

At Whitby, Dundas led 3-2 after 40 minutes of play before the roof fell in as the Dunlops outscored the visitors 6-2. Mifsud scored twice to lead the McCoys with single goals coming from Watson, Scott Charbonneau, and Ryan Christie. Watson set up two goals and Dan Pitre had three assists.

Peter MacKellar and Jason McAuley scored twice each for the Dunlops with Darren Doherty, Brett McConnachie, Steve Cornelissen, and Kyle Musselman adding one each. Murray Free set up two goals and Martin Kearns assisted on three scoring plays.
