That time of year again PSW Las Vegas 2013

Every year thousands of people come to Photoshop World to listen to international renowned speakers, learn from the best in the industry and keep up to date with the latest technology at the Expo. I'm proud to say, I was the PSW Las Vegas 2012 Westcott Shootout Winner. It's not hard to be creative when you have an opportunity to photograph monsters created by the hit show "FaceOff" (BTW-My New Favorite Show). My PSW portfolio review was with the famous Bert Monroy and truly inspirational. I never realized that my work would be considered as fine art and could be viewed in galleries as collections.  I always thought of myself a sports photographer and having "The Man" Scott Kelby review in San Francisco was a career highlight. He is not fearful to be vulnerable and show his passion for photography.

When not in class, I had so much fun hanging out with my photo buddies photographing Red Rock Canyon, some local basketball and good Ol'Downtown Vegas. Keeping my wallet close to me this year (;)Darren!) I even had time to do a photowalk with the boys from NY-Lens Baby. This year is sure to be bigger and better than the last...just like I strive with the next picture I take!

PSW last year became a pinnacle point in my photographic career. I feel that I have grown tremendously as a photographer. Portraiture is part of my steady workflow. I have had many actors and athletes who book work straight from my headshots (Thanks Peter Hurley) The encouragement from my mentors and investment of big glass brings my photography to an all new level. My sports photography has taken leaps and bounds. I'm toning my arms carrying around my dinosaur lens...I LOVE my 400! Sooooooo looking forward to meeting Brad Smith Director of Photography Sports Illustrated in NY!!! "How to edit your photos by Brad Smith" View [Here]

I ’m on a journey and I’m seeking beauty in life. It may be gone tomorrow, but life is picturesque. It may be captured in a moment and experienced for a lifetime. This is what inspires me! Read Full Post [Here]

March Madness Camera Action!

After getting home from Bahamas we were off to the Sparta Classic Basketball Tournament at Michigan State. Transway met up with the Indiana G3 Hoosiers, a National (USA) Ranked #2 team.  It was an exciting game to say the least. The basketball rules are very different in the United States. I believe it certainly develops better players and refereeing to a much more elite level.

The March break began with a tournament in Jordan, Ontario. The Dundas Select team played very well and had a lot of fun in Niagara Falls at the hotel...Not much sleep-FUN-FUN-FUN! I really enjoyed meeting Barry from Digital Sports Photography. DSP was shooting the tournament and selling prints/cd of the action.  They did a great job and I look forward to working with Barry,DSP in the future. [Digital Sports Photography]

David Johnson (DJ) ran his 2013 March Break Elite Basketball Camp at Annunciation Catholic School, Hamilton-ON. The camp was very inspiring with daily quotes to ponder, a commemorative t-shirt fund in honour of Sydney Wood, intense strength & conditioning training, advance skill assessment and motivational coaching. It was wonderful to see the camaraderie among athletes from all teams come together.

Westcott Lighting recently awarded me with the 2400-watt 2-Light Spiderlite TD6 Perfect Portrait Kit & Icelight. I wanted to make my first project memorable and help pass it forward. The kids at the David Johnson March Break Camp have a passion for basketball. My compassion for Sydney has made me value these young years forever. On the last day of camp I did basketball sport portraits for all the athletes. I am very happy with the Westcott Pro Lighting results and plan to do a review in the future. I Can’t Believe I WON the Westcott Shootout!

Wow! What a proactive approach this Westcott Shootout experience is. It allowed me to observe how to light the scene/model, application of movie quality hair/makeup and to conceptualize by being a part of the shoot. It is nice to see how other peer photographer’s work. The mini seminars by featured Pro’s are a huge bonus! I am more inspired than ever. Because of the applicable learning approach Westcott provided me at Photoshop World Las Vegas 2012, I believe winning the contest will not only encourage me to be more creative in my post process, but to allow me to experiment with more creative lighting options. The prize is the launch I needed to motivate me to establish my studio. Recognition from Westcott is humbling and reassures my career path is supported. The Westcott Shootout has incited a spark that makes me believe in my creative freedom. I plan to do some great on location work with the mobile ability of these spiderlites. Composites & Personal Custom Projects

Composites: A photo manipulations process that blend multiple images to obtain a uniform look of one complete piece. I like to take peoples special moments and passions to create an impressionable image that they can enjoy for a lifetime. Composites can be team members photographed individually to produce one poster. They may also be a relevant background to the subject or multiple images to compose a single design.
