Dundas Preparing for Playoff with Whitby<\/strong>

With two weekends remaining in the 2012-13 Allan Cup Hockey schedule, Dundas Real McCoys trail the second place Whitby Dunlops by one point in the race for second place in the league standings.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, it appears it would take a wholesale collapse by Whitby before Dundas could overtake them. The Real McCoys have two games left \u2013 against Brantford and the Dunlops \u2013 while Whitby has four games to go.<\/span><\/p>\n

The McCoys play the Blast on Friday (Feb. 8) at 7:30 p.m. in the Brantford Civic Centre, and wind up their season the following week against the visiting Dunlops on Feb. 15 at the JL Grightmire Arena.<\/span><\/p>\n

Last Friday (Feb. 1), Nick Smith netted two goals as the Real McCoys earned their 13th victory of the season, defeating the Welland Whalers, 4-3, in a shootout in the Grightmire Arena.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe played as well as we needed to, to earn the victory, however, Welland is a young club and they just keep coming at you all night,\u201d said Dundas coach Ken Mann. \u201cBrantford will be a good test for us this week. We play the top two teams in the League as we close out the schedule.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

After last weekend\u2019s action, Whitby and Dundas remained a point apart in second and third spots with 27 and 26 points apiece. Brantford, in spite of the Friday night loss, remains in top spot with 36 points.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have one Ontario Hockey Association player registration card left, and we are going to use to sign a player who can step up right now, and give us our best chance to win,\u201d said Dundas general manager Don Robertson. \u201cIt\u2019s clear that we will play Whitby in the first round of the playoffs and must be ready for them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to Smith\u2019s powerplay goal and winner in the shootout, Dundas got single goals from Justin Davis and Cam Watson. Drew Minor scored twice for Welland, including one on a powerplay and one shorthanded. Dan Marwick added the other.<\/span><\/p>\n
