Two McMaster Marauders have pulled down Ontario University Athletics Football Players of the Week awards for the period ending Sept. 23.
Offensive standout Kyle Quinlan was a key factor in keeping the McMaster Marauders undefeated after four games to lead the OUA. He quarterbacked his team to a 33-20 victory over the No. 5 Queen’s Gaels and bolstering the Marauders No. 1 ranking.
The fifth-year pivot completed 25 of 36 passes (69% completion rate) for 340 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions. The South Woodslee, ON., native carried the ball eight times for 76 yards and a touchdown along the ground.
Quinlan’s effort against the Gaels moved him up on the McMaster all-time records list. He is now ranked second in career completions, attempts, touchdown passes and passing yards.
Teammate and kicker Tyler Crapigna grabbed the special teams honour. He had an outstanding game against Queen’s, hitting all four field goal attempts from 31, 21, 40 and 45 yards. He averaged 38.3 yards per boot on 10 punts and put four of them out of bounds inside the Queen’s 20-yard line.
On three kickoffs, Crapigna averaged an impressive 64.3 yards, keeping Queen’s pinned deep in their own territory. He also completed one pass from punt formation for eight yards and a first down to keep a McMaster drive alive.
On defence, Harold Mutabola of the Western Mustangs drew recognition. The defensive back had his best game of the season against the Windsor Lancers. The Toronto native led the Mustangs with seven tackles, two knockdowns and a 68-yard interception return that sealed the a Western win.
