Congratulations to Transway U12 Girls Basketball Team on thier 3rd place finish in the Eastside Basketball Tournament, Rochester-NY. The Transway Team played up a division against girls that were 6+ foot and as old as 13 years. As part of my mission to assist amateur athletes, I donate my time to photograph their athletic achievements. My daughter is 10 years old and although I sincerely wanted to shoot The Mitchell Cup (Football), I needed to be there for her first USA basketball tournament. It was a great experience all around. Getting to know the athletes gives me a fresh perspective and incentive to capture them in action. Taylor even gave me some half time entertainment…Did you know that she is a Gymnast too?
The white balance changed about 6 times in this Gym. It was a beautiful facility, but difficult to photograph with an ever changing light source. Besides defensive player interference and the typical flash of black and white covering the shot from referee positioning it was a beautiful gymnasium. If the action was in my line close to lens the image was sharp and balanced. Other areas were blown out because of the direct sunlight from the windows and light interference from above. Thank goodness I was permitted to shoot anywhere to get some shots of the intense games.

It was certainly an eye opener to play basketball in Rochester, USA. There is “A LOT” of leniency in play. In my opinion, shy of full on tackling everything else goes. Don’t get me wrong, I am one for contact sport. I like to see aggressive play….It’s great for competition and definitely for the camera!
This week the Transway Girls U12 Team will be playing with their purple hearts in remembrance of Sydney Wood on their Jerseys in the Dundas Dynamo Tournament.
